Trial, changes and cancelling
Start the backupd Starter trial, upgrade or downgrade, manage invoices and payment, cancel, and what happens to a workspace without a plan.
Owners and admins manage billing in Settings → Billing. Prices are in USD, excluding tax.
Start the free trial
A new workspace has no plan. Click Start 14-day trial on Starter to begin. The billing page shows when the trial ends: Trial ends on …, then $10.00 a month.
To skip the trial, subscribe to Pro instead.
Upgrade
Click Upgrade next to Pro. You're taken to checkout, and the new plan applies as soon as it is confirmed. More databases, more frequent schedules, longer retention and copies to your own bucket become available.
Downgrade
Click Downgrade next to Starter. You manage the change in the billing portal. After a downgrade:
- Schedules more frequent than every 12 hours run at most every 12 hours.
- Backups older than 30 days are deleted on the next retention run.
- New backups are no longer copied to your own buckets. Copies already there stay.
- You can't add databases beyond Starter's 5. Existing ones keep running.
Invoices, payment method and cancelling
Click Invoices & payment to open the billing portal. There you can download invoices, update your payment method, and cancel.
After you cancel, the plan stays active until the end of the period. The billing page shows Cancels on ….
A workspace without a plan
A workspace is read-only when it has no plan in good standing: before the trial, after a trial ends unpaid, or after a cancelled plan ends.
- Scheduled and manual backups stop, and no database can be added.
- Every stored backup stays available to download and restore.
- Retention is paused, so nothing is deleted.
Pressing Backup now shows This workspace has no active plan. Start the 14-day Starter trial or subscribe in Settings → Billing to resume backups. Subscribe again to resume.
If a payment fails, your plan keeps working while it is retried. The billing page shows the subscription's status.
Extra storage and spending cap
How backupd bills storage beyond your plan, storage alerts at 80% and 100%, and how the spending cap pauses new backups instead of billing past your budget.
API and MCP
Automate backupd with API keys from CI or scripts, and connect Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients to read your databases, backups and usage.
